In August 2023, Guoji Heavy Equipment Group Co., Ltd., located in Deyang, Sichuan, developed the world's first largest single-machine capacity 500MW-class impulse turbine runner center body forgings successfully shipped and delivered to Dongfang Electric Group Dongfang Electric Co., Ltd.

The impulse turbine unit is the main model to serve the country's major strategic needs of "speeding up the construction of southwest hydropower base", the runner is one of the core components with the most difficult research and development and the most difficult manufacturing problems in the hydropower unit, and the central body forging is the most important part of the high-head and large-capacity impulse runner.

The finished product of the central body forging developed this time reaches 100 tons, which will be applied to the hydropower project in China and the world's first application demonstration of 500MW high-head large-capacity impact unit with the largest single-unit power.

In order to develop the central body forging, the national machinery has completed a series of key processes from smelting to final joint inspection of products. In the field of super-large martensitic stainless steel forgings for hydropower, major breakthroughs have been made in high purity purification smelting of molten steel, shape control profiling forging of thick pancake parts, microstructure refinement and performance regulation, etc. Zero defect detection of forgings has been realized. All inspection indexes meet and are better than technical requirements, and successfully delivered to the assembly line.
